The production and distribution of readers for young children

This project is still in its infancy, but we have been working on the production of our first informative reader (booklet) for young children (grades R–3), which will be ready for distribution in 2016. And this is only the first of what we hope will be many. From these, we would like young children to learn how to care for the environment and for non-human animals with the kindness that will help restore the harmony between the other three elements that form the focus of speak! : people, environment, animals.

If you would like to collaborate on this campaign, contact anneke@speaksa.co.za. In particular, we are going to need funds and illustrators!

A Speak Kindness Project:

Storybooks to Teach Children about Animals

Speak is creating a series of interactive storybooks for small children about how to care for different animals and for the environment. The storybooks will take the form of colouring books and be
distributed free of charge among very young children, for
example at crèches.

The first one, Lucky Comes Home, is about how to care for dogs. It has been written and the illustrations have been completed. It has been endorsed by Prof Veronica McKay (Dean of the Faculty of Education at Unisa), who heads up the creation and delivery of readers for the Dept of Basic Education.

We need funds to pay the illustrator and have the book printed. We would also like to provide the kids with colouring pencils.

Will you help us save dogs

by getting this little book to the children?
